PANMURE.

The opening night of the season of the Panmure Mutual Improvement Society on Monday,l3th, was a great success owing to the kindness of friends driving out from town to assist, namely, Misses CODquer and Fernandez, Messrs P Fernandez, A Fernandez, T Allen, and H Conquer. The following musical programme was gone through :— Piano solo. Miss Conquer ; mandolin and banjo quartettes and duets, Mies Fernandez, Messrs Fernandez and Bickettes ; Mr T Allen gave a most interesting lecture on the lives of British Admirals, selecting Blake, Greuville, and Napier, and sang ' The Vampire.' and • Tha Diver ' ; Mr G H Badge gave a short address on the urgent need of training the young 'men of New Zealand for active service afloat or ashore. The various items were immensely enjoyed by the audience, who rolled up well. The mandolin and banjo selections were very clever, and Mr .Allen's songs were quite a treat.
