TURUA.

A short time. ago it was decided ,to hold a regatta on the river at this place as a welcome break in the monotony of life, and a meeting was held and a committee elected to carry out the designs of the promoters. The committee consists of Messrs W McCarthney, Edmonds, Spinks, Thompson, and'J "b'arquhar, who is also hon. secretary. It was decided to have seven events— a sailing race for keel boats, a race for single sculls (junior and senior), a sailing race for flat-bottomed boats, a pair-oared race for ' flatties,' a ladies' race (single sculls), and a sailing race for * flatties.' A greasy boom competition is also to be included should sufficient funds be forthcoming. The secretary has been very successful in hH canvass for subscriptions, and should the day chosen (27th inst.) be a suitable one, a very great treat should be enjoyed by those who are able to be present.
