Opening of Chapel-street School
The Brick Den opened this week in Chapel. street, as a public school, will long be valuable as a monument of infamy — an unerrring index of the foul doings of the Board of Education and the City Schools Committee. Future generations will have an unsavoury memento of ths forting of the Board by the City Committee to appoint • that man ' headmaster — that man who it was divined had a special aptitude for teaching a Ragged School, and a special aptitude al3o for teaching an Auxiliary School, as well as for teaching an ordinary school. £6000 of public money have now been expanded in connection with the Hagged School and Brick Den merely to provide a billet for ' that man. 1 He has it, however, and evidently that man can now laugh in his sleeve at the degraded City Committee and the more degraded unprincipled Board.
