WHANGAREI.
— Yes, "Mrs 8., of Whangarei," has got xip one or two nice little dances, and very select ones too. They are yot up in this "wise : — Some of Mvd B.s young friends will go to her and plead their anxiety for a dance, and suggest that she should arrange one, her name being considered sufficient guarantee that no objectionable person •will be present. A time being agreed upon, Mrs B. straightway issues invitations (mostly verbal ones, as the affair is sans ceremouip), engages the public hall for that evening, also the music, and a man to attend to the tea and coffee business. Refreshments are provided by some of the ladies, Mrs B. perhaps providing the larger share by virtue of her responsibility. At sonic time during the evening the gentlemen are asked for a small subscription to defray (strictly) the hive only of the hall, music and attendant — £2. The evenings thus spent have been voted very agreeable, and if some objectionable person has failed to gel an invite, who is to blame? N.8.-— Ti ; the gentleman referred to still regrets the loss of his 2s subscription, doubtless if lie applied pe.i'soiialli/ to Mrs B. she would be willing to refund it.
