— The best concert and ball ever given here Tvithin the memory of the oldest inhabitant, took place in the school-voom last week, when upwards of a hundred settlers were present. The programme consisted of well-selected songs, readings and recitations, and lasted till 10 o'clock, when the room was cleared for dancing, which was under the able direction of Mr W. Lawyer, M.C., and was kept up with spirit until daylight. The orchestra was composed at follows : — Mr M. C. Fcrson and Mr Adolf e (accordians) , and Mr Cantwell, of Henderson's Mill (violin) . Most of the ladies wore plain evening dresses, but the following were most noticeable : — Mrs M. C. Lymont, blue costume trimmed with black veivefc, chenille fringe ; Miss Buthgate, black lustre, cardinal trimming ; Miss Pagan (who carried off the palm), black lustre, cream lace, and rose-bud trimmings ; Miss 3. Pagan, black grenadine with pink and white trimmings ; Miss E. Pagan, pompadour dress trimmed with claret; Miss Dean, navy-blue trimmed with satin ; Miss "Wliite, grey cashmere trimmed with a darker shade ; Miss Craig, grey and cardinal. The dancing was really very good.
