Know ye the land where the tree fern, and kauri, Are emblems of deeds that are done in that clime ; Where the lust of .the land-shark, the cry of the Maori, Now goads into madness, now maddens to crime ? Know ye the land where Sir George, the Magician, Evokes young republics with paper and pen ; Swooped down on by Halt, and forsaken by Sheehan — Where Hurst is a hero, where boys smoke like men ? Know ye the land where mud is the prominent Fact in a winter too awfully too ? Know ye the city where floods are predominant, Where little Wilkinson sits looking blue ? Know ye the land where the Cordens are playing, Mostly to deadheads, the pit and the Press ? Where the "Pinafore" children their days are delaying ■por balls, and for picnics, for gifts and caress ? Know ye the land where the " Cloches de Corneville " (New dresses, new scenery, dances and all). What cash we have left from each purse is to steal, And our senses steal too, in the Lome-street Hall ? Know yo the wondrous gold claim called Tiki— Blackmore, and Tiernan's, and Stoddart's the leases r If at Te Aroha prospects look dickey, Here's to the reef which grows thick, and increases. Know ye the land where the Princes are coming ? — A good time coming, boys, bully for you ; Leave the gay ball-room, and come to the gloaming : Come to the Hot Lakes, the Terraces blue.
