Mr Macrae's long experience and well-known capabilities as a_ teacher should ensure him success in his new undertaking. — Dr Grant, M.R.C.S., England, many years connected with one of the largest hospitals in Victoria, has decided on permanently remaining in Auckland, and as his great speciality is the cure of Blindness and Deafness, his advent amongst us may be looked upon as a boon to all suffering from the above named distressing afflictions. American Waltham Watches were Awarded the Only Two First Prizes at the Melbourne International Exhibition, 1880-81, being Higher Awards than any other Exhibitor received for watches. — The young man who was kicked the other nightby a young lady's papain Vincent-street, swears the boots were made at Garrett Bros, in Wakefield-street, because the toe of the boot was made of the strongest and most durable leather in Auckland, and he says he ought to know as he speaks from experience. — "Which is the greatest evil, smoking or chewing ?" wasthe question put to a certain witty parson, well known at the Waikato. Trade Mark, Waltham, Mass. — The American "Watch Company, of Waltham, Massachusetts, U.S.A., hereby give notice that their Trade Mnrk, "Waltham, Mass.," is now registered in the Australian Colonies of Victoria, Now South Wales, and New Zealand. Proceedings will be taken against any person copying or imitating same, or any vendors selling or offering for sale watches bearing colourable imitations or in any way infringing our rights. — American Watch Company, Waltham, Mass. — One of Ford's employees gave him notice the other day. " What's the matter? said his master. Have you any fault to find with me ?" No ! replied the man, certainly not, but I saw one of our customers with a pair of ten-and-six slops on, and I was afraid the public might think he had them made here, and as you are allowed to be one of the best cutters in Auckland, it hurt my feelings. The said customer having discarded the slops, swears that hencefotth no tailor but J. Ford, of Queen-street, shall make his clothes. — Hush ! tell it with hated breath. It was midnignt ; the bolls in the old fashioned church tower had. just tolled out the hour with slow and solemn strokes, when the sound of marching feet was heard. All was still as death, when two flies of men, weariug Philip's 13s 6d trousers, came forth, and as one man, made this strange but true declaration — " These (pointing to their trousers) are the cheapest and most durable we have ever had, and we are now on our way to Jack Phillips' to be measured for his famous 55s suits. Come, all sensiblo people, and do likewise." And they moved on. — Can you tell me the best apothecary to get this prescription accurately prepared with the best ' ingredients, said a new arrival to us yesterday. We replied take it to T. B. Hill's, anyone will show you his shop in the very centre of Queen-street, opposite the Theatre Royal, and next to Goodson's London Arcade. You will always find him behind the, counter himself, and as you say you have had it always prepared in the best London establishments, as Mr Hill imports his own medicines from the best manufacturers and gnai^mtees their purity, you. need be under no approhenBion but what you will get it quite as good as you have hod it from Bell's, Corbyn's, or Squires'.
