Even .supposing the Assembly Avere competent to discuss questions of imperial interest, and tint the Colony -would tolerate such an absurdity as the shelving of a debate on the Colonial Treasurer's Budget, in order to admit of a discussion on the stale of Ireland, do you think the opinion wired Home would influence Her Majesty's Government one jot? Not a bit of ifc. The resolution would be politely shunted into a waste-paper basket or a pigeon-hole, and there it would stay. To see the abject absurdity of the scheme one has only to consider what we should think of Tasmania or some such puny Legislature trying to influence imperial politics by sending Horne — say — twenty words by cable.
