Vessels of 70 tons can come up the River Awamii, to the landing place at the town, and with a very small outlay vessels of much larger tonnage might be brought up. The Situation is level, nicely elevated above highwater mark of the river, the soil is rich and well watered; it is surrounded by good settlers, and the back country is extensive and productive. The highway to Victoria Valley, Kataia, Oruru, Hokianga, Ahipara, &c. Coal has been discovered in the immediate neighbourhood.
