A WAIKATO WAIL.

— A Waikato contributor sends me the following "Victim's Lament" which is founded on the text " A collection will he made in aid of the new church building fund." — Where e'er niy wandering feet may lead, To concert or tea-meeting, That sentence dire in letters large My saddened eyes is greeting. Homeward I turn my wearied steps, Thinking to take my ease ; Soon conies a knock, " Who's there ?"—" Oh ■ sir " Your weekly subscription, please." " * I go to church to calm my mind And list to truths efficient ; The most impressive truth I hear, Is " Building Fund deficient ! " The Govenor comes— l join the crowd Hoping I've found protection ; Alas ! c'en, there the plate goes round For the " Building Fund " collection. Oh ! whither shall I flee for peace ? With poverty I'm stunned • The verdict of my death will be, "The new Church Building Fund !"
