PRISON SENTENCE.
FOR SUSTENANCE FRAUD. SEVEN DAYS AWARDED. CASE IN TIMARU. FBy Telegraph.—Press Association"!. TIMARU Nov. 18. The first prison sentence at Timaru for making a false sustenance declaration was passed on Percival Albert McGrath by Mr. 11. Morgan, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. The charge was that, with intent to defraud by falsely representing that his oarnings were only £l/7/6 for a certain period, McGrath obtained from the Employment Promotion Fund the sum of £l/7/6 over and above the amount to which he was legally entitled.
McGrath, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment with hard labour. Mr. E. C. J. Foot, the district employment officer, said defendant had
been amply warned in writing about discrepancies in his declarations since 1936.
