—*.— NATIONAL PARTY PROMISE. ONE OF FIRST JOBS TACKLED. MB. ALLEN SPEAKS AT N GATE A. If the National Party was returned to power, said Mr. J. M. Allen, National candidate for the Hauraki electorate in an address at Ngatea last night, hi had the assurance of the Leader of the Party, Mr. Adam Hamilton, that one of the first works that would be tackled under the land policy would be the drainage question on the Plains. The meeting was attended by an audience of about 160, and the speaker was given a very attentive hearing, there being but a few interjections. Mr. C. W. Parfitt was chairman. Mr. Allen compared the policy of the Labour Party with the Nationa 1

policy, and said that under the latter individual freedom would be encouraged. He dealt at length with toeguaranteed price scheme, also market ing of primary produce, and finance and pointed out what steps the National Party would take to ensure that the farmer was fully recompensed foi his work. If the Labour Party was returned again, added Mr. Allen, the farmers would have difficulty in getting control again. Land settlement, social security and State building were other points dealt with by the candidate. ; At the conclusion of the address, a motion of thanks' to the speaker airl confidence in him and the National Party, moved by Mr. D. J. Law and seconded by Mr. B. Davies, was carried.
