CREOSOTING POSTS.
ADDING LIFE TO WOOD,
GOOD RECIPE FOR FARMERS. Creosoting wooden fence posts is :i splendid protection, which, if properly carried out, will add another 10 yeprs to their life. The best way is to get a 40-gallon oil or molasses drum and fill it about 2ft deep with creosote, standing the posts in this for 24 hours. When you take them out, lay them out and allow them to drain for at least a day, in.such a way that the creosoto finds its way back to the drum. (An old sheet of corrugated iron will do, or alternatively you can have a sec ond drum into which they will drain, and then return the creosote into the first drum). If you have not a sufficient quantity of creosote to dip them in, paint it on. This, however, has been proved to be not nearly as effective. Actually, the best system of all is to heat the creosote to about 180 deg. and have the posts immersed for about six hours, but this involves a good deal of work and the straight-out immersion in tin cold creosote does the job pretty effec tively.
