MB. J. THORN’S MEETINGS.
VOTES OF CONFIDENCE.
IN HIKUAI AND TAIKUA. Continuing his election campaign* Mr. James Thorn, Labour candidate for Thames, addressed a meeting at the Hikhai Soldiers’ Settlement on Tuesday afternoon. About 50 people were present, and gave Mr. Thorn a very friendly hearing. After answering questions, dealing mainly with tho administration of Tho guaranteed price policy and social security, Mr. Thorn was loudly applauded. On the motion of Mr. F. P. Millea, a director of the Tairua Co-operative Dairy Company, seconded by another returned soldier settler, Mr. Thorn was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence. The motion also expressed keen appreciation of the work Mr. Thorn had done for the district, and congratulated the Government on its achievement. All but four or five held up their hands in favour of this motion. At Tairua. On Tuesday evening, Mr. Thorn spoke in the hall at Tairua. Over 50 people were present and again the candidate’s reception was cordial and friendly. Mr. Beach, the chairman, in introducing the candidate, said Mr. Thorn had visited the district and had done more for it than any other M.P. who had preceded him. At the conclusion of the candidate’s address, all but two or three members of the audience voted by a show of hands for a motion thanking and expressing confidence in Mr. Thorn and in the Labour Government. At both these meetings a large proportion of those present were women.
