Women's Institute.
MATARIRI BRANCH. The Matariri Women’s Institute’s second birthday Avas celebrattd in the Puriri Hall last Aveek. There was a very large attendance of visitors from other branches, including Waitakaruru, Ngatea, Nctherton, Paeroa, Tapu and Thames. Tho hall Avas prettily decorated with spring floAvers, and streamers in tho Institute colours.
A musical programme Avas much enjoyed, items being supplied by members from Waitakaruru, Paeroa, Netherton and Thames, Avhile a one-act play Avas given by local members. A sumptuous afternoon tea Avas served by the committee from a number of small tables. A beautiful birthday cake, with two candles, was cut by Mrs. Abercrombie.
The visiting presidents each expressed good Avishes and congratulations. The celebration was brought to a close in the evening, Avhen a family party was held. Dancing and games .were the order, and items, community singing and competitions Avere appreciated by all. Mr. Cribb thanked the ladies on behalf of the families and Avished the Institute continued success. TURUA BRANCH. The Turua Women’s Institute met yesterday at the home of Mrs. Hessell, Mrs. Hill presiding over a good attendance of members. Arrangements were made to hold a Christmas tree and afternoon early in December. Competitions for the best made toffee resulted: Nut, Mrs. Sutton 1, Mrs. Fox 2; plain, Mrs. Hill 1, Mrs. Goodhue 2. During the afternoon songs Avere rendered by Mrs Fox and Mrs. Clark, the items being much enjoyed. The hostesses for the day were Mi*s. Sutton and Mrs. Tetley.
