FLOOD DAMAGE.

ROADS IMPASSABLE. Te Aroha District. DEAD STOCK IN RIVER. POWER SUPPLY RESTORED. (.By Telesrapii.—Press Association). TE AROHA, Feb. 3. Heavy rain from Saturday to Sunday morning, followed by a vio.ent gale, resulted in the biggest Hood experienced in the district for many years, the mountain creeks and Waiaou River inundating thousands of acres of low-lying country. The approaches to the YVaiorongomai, Shaftesbury and Wairakau bridges were washed away and traffic is impassable between Te Aroha and Paeroa and Te Aroha and To Aroha West. Water entered the Northern Steam Ship Company's premises, and the Borough Council road staff to-day are engaged in dislodging a jam of logs at the main traffic bridge.

In the Thames Valley Power Board's area 1,000 suppliers were cut off by the gale and falling trees, and milking yesterday was done by hand. The Board's staff worked all night and effected repairs. Portion of the roof of Hazelwood's boarding-huse was blown off. The rainfall registered at the Tourist Domain for the 24 hours to Suuday morniug was six inches. The losses of stock are not yet known, but hundreds of sheep and cattle were seen floating down the river yesterday.
