Jumped From Bridge.
YOUNG WOMAN'S SUICIDE. DROWNED IN WAIKATO. HEROIC RESCUE EFFORT. ißy Telegraph—Press; Association;. HAMILTON, March 20. Shortly alter 7 o'clock this morn ing a young woman was seen to jump over the railway bridge at Hamilton. The body, which has not been recovered, was seen floating down the river.
An heroic attempt to rescue the woman was made by Mr. W. Tudhope, who noticed her plight and swam to her assistance.
Mr. Tudhope, who lives on the river-bank, was told over the telephone by a friend further up the river that a woman Avas floating dgwn the river crying out for help. Mr. Tudhope immediately rushed down the steep bank from his house to the river clothed in his pyjamas. He saw the woman floating down over three-quarters of the way across the river.
He immediately plunged in and swam towards her. As he was nearing her she sank twice, and jusl before ho reached her she sank again and did not reappear.
The woman's name is understood to be Mrs. P. Campbell, of Francis street, Claudelands.
