Over-Proof Whisky.

MAN'S UNLICENSED STILL. FINE OF £IOO. (By Telegraph—Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 7. A tine of £IOO was imposed on John Penberthy Bashford, aged 56, of Hornby, six miles from Christchurch, when charged in the Polico Court yesterday with being in possession of an unlicensed still* Evidence "was given that Bashford made quantities of over-proof Avhisky and endeavuored to sell it to hotels.

The appearance of accused before Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., followed on a raid which was made on his house by Customs and police officers, when liquor and portions of the still were impounded. He pleaded guilty and default was fixed at six months' gaol. C. O. Eyre, acting-Collector of Customs, said that the search of accused's home produced a keg containing seven gallons of whisky, several bottles of whisky and portion of a still. Accused admitted that the liquor was that the still had been make it.

"Bashford sold whisky at 50/- a gallon, and canvassed a dozen or more hotels, trying to sell it," continued Mr. Eyre. "Also in his stock was a bottle of inferior ereme de Menthe. This man owns a winerrfaking license, which was taken out last February."
