AN EXPERT’S OPINION.
In our telegraphic news to-day, we publish the opinion of an expert, name not mentioned, taking the Minister of Mines to task for his display of optimism regarding a revival of mining. The expert must have southern mining in his mind, for, had he been possessed of the facts concerning these goldfields he would have held his tongue. The recent interestdisplayed in the Alburnia, the Moanataiari and Lucky Shot ventures shows that the public are keenly interested, and should gold be obtained in any quantity there would be plenty of public money to finance other proposals. The request to the Minister to erect a public battery at Ivarangahake is further evidence of the renewed interest in mining, while the promise of German capital to work the complex ores of this peninsula caps our argument that the near future will see a decided revival in mining, -and we are equally as optimistic as the Minister.
