NGATEA.

(From Our Travelling Reporter.) THE SCHOOL. During the past twelve months the number of children on the roll at the local school has risen from 50 to 80. Ngatea boasts of one of the finest' and best kept school gardens in the' whole of the Thames Valley and the| Plains. The garden is over three times the size it was 12 months age, and is arranged in a series of beds, • each set aside for a certain vege- ; table or flower. The head master,| Mr Macken, deserves every credit | for the amount of work which he has | put in getting the garden into its present state and also for the work both I he and his pupils put in in keeping it free from weeds. A BIG CHEQUE. That a brisk trade is being I done by in the buying of calf skins is evident to all. 1 A few days ago, a Iverepeehi settler ] received a cheque for over £SO, this : being the largest amount, paid, by * the Hew Zealand Co-op Bacon and Meat Packing Company for any one consignment of skins from the Plains during the present season. PLAINS FOOTBALL. The football season is now over and all the players and others concerned are hard at work at their various pursuits. I The question of the boundaries of thq. Hauraki Plains Rugby Union has \ - not yet been settled and ■ Inore trouble is expected. The members of the Union hope that the Management Committee will take this matter in hand with a view to getting

the boundaries fixed and the question of affiliation settled as sodn as possible so as to enable the Union next season to take part in such outside matches as the Peace Cup, or the > Goldfield Challenge Cup. The Waitakaruru Club recently held a celebration hall in honour of their winning the Senior Cup. Local players say that if one club can promote a hall others should arrange a similar function. This is due to the ladies itho have given very valuable assistance to the Union and to each individual club during the season.
