FARMERS’ VIEWS.
A PRIVATE CONFERENCE. MR. MASSEY HITS OUT. (Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 13. " The Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union held a meeting yesterday. The Press were not admitted.
Representatives of the Union placed 'before members of Parliament, who were present the Union’s ideas on the questions of banking, the marketing of produce and the shipping of jiroduee. Mr Massey arrived during the meeting and said that he strongly objected to some of the statements which had been made. They had no right to go about the country as whiners and croakers. They were the country’s credit. In support of the view he had expressed of the hopeful position of the country, Mr Massey read a cable he had just received from London announcing that wool had risen in price.
The matter of taxation was touched on by Mr ]\lassey, who declared that the rate of taxation had not been increased. Any increase had been in the value of the land. Members of the Union said that what they objected to was having to pay more money by way of taxation.
