A. & P. ASSOCIATION.

HAURAKI PLAINS. A DELAYED MEETING. (Prom Our Travelling Reporter.) A meeting of members of the Hauraki Plains Agricultural and Pastoral Association, convened by Mr. L. W, Bagnall, was held in the Kerepeehi Hall on Saturday. There were present: Messrs W.. G. Hay ward, E. Walton, L. W. Bagnall, P. Henry, E. D. Jamieson, W. J. Clair, W. MeDuff, G. D. McMillan, and J, Twist. - Mr. Hayward was. elected to the chair, and Mr. Bagnall was appointed secretary of the meeting.

Mr. Bagnall read several letters which he had written to the president (Mr. Chatfield) and to -the secretary (Mr J. Leonard) ln._connection with the delay in calling the annual meeting.

The annual meeting of the association, said Mr. Bagnall, should have been called not later than April 30. Jt was now the middle of August, and no meeting had yet been called. This was why he had taken it upon himself to convene the present meeting. The chairman thought that the chief business of the meeting was to decide as to how they should approach the president and the secretary for the purpose of ascertaining why the annual meeting, had not been held. He had expected a much more representative gathering,- and thought ■that the meeting should very carefulJly consider the matter, before" taking |any further action. : Mr. Walton suggested that this meeting of members .should ask the secretary to call a meeting, and to place before the members the report rand balance-sheet. If this request was ignored, then the executive must meet and deal with the matter.

Mr. Jamieson thought that Mr. Bagnall had called a meeting without sufficient cause, but he would support Mr. Walton's suggestion. ) Mr. Walton stated that a little delay might help to clear the matter up. , Mr. Walton, moved, and Mr. Twist seconded, that Mr. B'agnall's action in calling the meeting 'should be endorsed, and this was carried.

Mr. Henry stated that when on his way to the meeting he had seen Mr. Chatfield, who had informed him that he had, some time ago, asked the secretary to call the annual meeting. As nothing had been done, Mr. Chatfield had renewed his request, and had added that if the meeting was not called on or before August 20 he would take the matter into his own hands. Mr. Chatfield had since received v a telegram from Mr. Leonard, to the effect that the books would be returned by launch to Kerepeehi prior .to August 27. Mr: Chatfield had insured Mr. Henry that he would call a, meeting at a date not later than Saturday, August 27.

The chairman said that the present meeting was called, not necessarily to censure the president or the secretary, but to ascertain the reason why the annual meeting had not been called. !

Mr. McMillan agreed with Mr. Bagnall that the members of the executive had looked /to the central, or Kerepeehi, members "to take the preliminary steps. ,He thought that the president was a -little to blame for failing to call a meeting of the executive since April 30. Mr..Bagnall said that there'were at present at the post office several letters to the, secretary of the association, which, in the-present state of affairs, would be returned through the dead-letter office. Mr. Walton moved that Messrs Hayward, Bagnall, and Henry should be appointed a committee to confer with the president, with a view to calling a meeting, hnd placing: before the members the report and balancesheet. \

Mr. McMillan seconded the motion, which was carried.
