The romance of a village girl and a nobleman culminated at the Stowe parish church where Katherine Jackman, daughter of the village blacksmith, was married to the Master of Kinloss, the grandson of the last Duke ,of Buckingham. The romance dates back to childhood when the young heir is said to have taken -his broken toys to the smithy which stands at the gates of Stowes House. ; The Master of Kinloss states that there is nothing unusual in such a marriage in these democratic times.
