The Influenza Epidemic
The following, rewixixnendations are made by the Health authorities: —
PRECAUTIONS
REMAIN IN THE FRESH AIR AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
AVOID TOO CLOSE CONTACT WITH PERSONS SUFFERING FROM COLDS.
ABSOLUTELY AVOID INTIMATE CONTACT, E.G., KISSING. DANCING, ETC.
AVOID PLACES WHERE PERSONS CONGREGATE INDOORS, E.G., PUBLIC MEETINGS. TRAMS, ENTERTAINMENTS, ETC.
AVOID DRAIJGHTS.
ALWAYS COUGH OR SNEEZE
INTO A HANDKERCHIEF.
use a simple spray fob the Nose and gargle the throat, e.g., cond'y's fluid, or use formamint lozenges, etc.
AtOID CLOSE CONTACT WITH PERSONS SUFFERING FROM -INFLUBNZiA.. ■ '
DO NOT REMAIN UNNECESSARILY LONG WITH PATIENT,, AS THIS INCREASES DANGER OF INFEGTION.
AMMONMTED TiNCTtJRE OF QUININE IS A DRUG THAT IS MUCH RECOMMENDED.
COMMON DINKMG CUPS, ETC , IN RESTAURANTS, ETC.. SHOULD BE WASHED IN HOT WATER BEFORE RE-USE
PATIENTS.
GO TO BED WHEN FEEL ONSET OF SYMPTOMS, AND REWJSC; THERE TILL ALL THE FEVER HAS COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY OF AVOIDING RISK OF COMPLICATIONS.
ISOLATION SHOULD BE! PRAOTISED WHERE POSSIBLE; AND QNLY ONE MEMBEk Of fkV. ILY SHOULD VISIT THE PATIENT'S ROOM.
DESTROY SPUTUM, ETC., :-#T RECEiyiNG" SPtTUM AND JASAL SECRETIONS INTO RECEPTACLES CONTAINING 5 ■-PBIR CENT CARBOLIC ACID OR INTO CLOTHfe toICH..AFTERWARDS., BURN. "r ■ .■ ■ ■•.-■ ■ - .■•; ■.■■„■ I ■ ■■ , KEEP PATIENT'S FEEDING UTENSILS, EfTC., SEPARATR, AND PLACE IN BOILING WATER AFTER USE.
HANDKERCHIEFS USED BY PATIENTS SHOULD BE > KEPT - SEPARATE AND WELL BOILED AFTER USE.
PATIENTS SHOULD NOT APPEAR IN, PUBLIC PLACED FOR 7 TO 10 DAYS FROM TtlE ONSET OF THE DISEASE, AND SHOULD BE PARTICULARLY CAREFUL. NOT TO SNEEZE OR COUGH WITHOUT USING A HANDKERCHIEF, OTHERWISE THERE IS DANGER OF;INFEC TION BEING SPREAD.
LIGHT NUTRITIOUS DIET IS RECbMMEtfftED.
