A At • the monthly meeting of the ■ Hauraki Drainage Board, there were ! present: Messrs. H. S. Wrigibt (chairman)," H. A. JMills, R. H. I 1-leo.ppy, George Gray, and R. Baker, trustees, tihe Board's engin- . cci-, Mr. W. R. Johnson, and J. E. Green', clerk. Moved by Mr. Gray, seconded by Mr. Baker, that the clerk's action in •instructing the contractor on • the Huirau road drain deepening contract as to tihe spoil being placed on the fence side of the drain, in view of the County Council's requirements' be, and is hereby confirmed; also as to instructing the Board's solicitors as to the Board's legal right in consequence of interference with, the Board's contractor. —Carried. 1 The clerk was instructed to write to the Thames County Council with reference to the spoil whidh had been placed,' on the Huirau road against the Board's instructions, and to fully explain the position. On receipt of a reply from- the Council, the matter was to t>e left in the hands of the chairman and Mr. R. Baiker with power to act. j The clerk was instructed to inform Picket and Party, contractors, that j the Board regretted that it could not j accede to their request for an additional bonus on tihe joib. The clerk was authorised to proceed witk the necessary formalities for the raising of a further loan, of £5000' if a favourable reply,were received from the State Advances Office in response to the Board's application before the' next "monthly meeting of the Board, and if necessary, to call a special meeting. Moved by Mr. Wright, seconded by Mr. Mills, that the" 'balance-sheet of tihe Board up to the 3<lst March,, 19i]8, .be adopted as audited and signed by the Auditor-General, Wellington, and that the same be advertised in accordance with the Act.— Carried. It was resolved that floodgates W put into the following drains* in tihe respective areas, mentioned, namely: Northern area, drains 'Nos. 2 and 3; Turua area, in all outlet drains " in this, area; Central area, the willow drain and Dally outlet drain, Hufrau road; Te Kauri area, No. 1 drain; also that the balance of loan money in this area, sihoiild be spent in completing the No. 1 drain and Rodger's outlet, Mangonui area. No 1 drain and No. 2 drain be at, once completedi and that the culvert pipes, at Carter's corner be put in, an 3 that the whole of tihe above.. works be carried out as, soon as possible. Resolved thiat Mr. Baker should interview the directors of the Thames . Valley Dairy Company as tihe future of the factory outlet drain in the Cenjtral area. The clerk.was also instructed to enquire the name of the owner of a launch sunk in the mouth of the Whaxepoa road"" drain, &t>d order its immediate removal, and if not done to fee done by the Board's foreman. ' The Board's engineer, Mr. W. R. Johnson, requested that he b^ relieved of the engineering! supervision of the Board's works, which the Board agreed to, and that in future tihe same should be carried out by the Board's foreman, Mr. McCbnnell. Mr. Johnson promised to suteiit terms .upon which he would, te prepared to act in a.n advisory capacity, also for preparing plans,, specifications or estimates of works, etc. The Bbard?s foreman, Mr. McConnell, reported verbally his work j throughout the district during the past fortnight. Accounts totalling £413 13s s<l were passed for payment.
