At the Clore Magistrate's Court, before Mr Kenriok, S.M., George Demipster {Mr Inder) alpplied for a publican's license for the Woodlands Hotel, recently taken into the Mataura No-license district from Aiwarua.
The only memiber of the last Licensing Ooiumiittele who .presented) nimself wais Me Forsyth (Wyndham).
Mr Inder was about' to point but that another member was present when'Mr 'EL S. Smith, a solicitor, interjeotled that the person was an objector.
Mr Inder: Are you appearing t«" objeflt? You have not lodgied an <r/b' jeotion.
Mfr Smith: & lot of things hive not been doniet The mjeetittp: of the committee hais not been aidlvertised for one thing. Mr Smith contended thiat the Magistrate 1 had power 'to deal with the application. ;
Mr Inder submitted that the ild dommittee was in existence until th& sucojessors appointed! and took offico.
The position was becoming involve ■ed when thie( Magistrate said that as* far as he could see there was no Court present at all, and he had i>o power to deal with the application.: If, he added, the licensee continues business after June 30th he will fun the risk of prosecution to settle the question.
