Gang of Robbers.
I ARRESTED AT DUNEDIN. . ! SYSTEMATIC ROBBERIES IN NEW ZEALAND. i , j [Pe> United Prsss Association.] ! DUNEDIN, August 14. Three men, giving the names of William Jones, Robert Palmer, and Walter Attwell, were arrested in connection with- a number of robberies ; from residences lately. j Palmer and Jones are now idenr tified as George Augustus Vincent and ; William Preston, with several aliases. ! Later on all will be charged with offences committed under similar circumstances in Christohurch, Wellington:, Wanganui, and Auckland. i The members of the gang gradually worked their way down through the colony. ! As supplementing the above we learn that the three young men named Walter Attwell, Robert Augustus Palmer and William Jones were originally arrested on charges of vagrancy and remanded for eight days, while their finger prints were I examined with the object of having i them identified. It was then ; probable- that' the men would \ bei charged with some of | the extensive jewellery robberies that [ took place lately. On searching an ', outhouse at the back of the premises where the men were living in Maclaggan- street, Detectives Bill and McLeod cam© upon, the whole of the jewellery, valued at £50, which was stolen from Mrs Peter's house in Pelicht Bay. A further search revealed also the jewellery recently stolen from Mr Sjprosen,, residing at the north: end of the town, a quantity of jewellery stolen from Mr Clark's residence at Eglinton road, and jewellery taken from Mr Johnston's house in Glen road. The suspects arrived from Auckland.
