Great Britain is purchasing 20,000 mules in America and Italy for service in the Transvaal. CAPETOWN, Sept. 28. The Boers are trying to purchase large supplies of wheat and tinned meats in Capetown. Mr. Steyn has sent his family to Capetown. PRETORIA, Sept. 28. Mr. Chamberlain's despatch has intensified the hostile spirit of the Boew, and it is expected Kruger will demand a stoppage of reinforcements pending the receipt of the final British proposals. A run has begun on the Pretoria banks.
DURBAN, Sept. 28,
The Cape muleteers at Ladysmith have mutinied, and refuse to go to the front.
Two shots were fired at a British column which was marching to Dundee, but those committing the act have not yet been discovered. [Dundee, the place mentioned in the above message, is a small town on the railway line between Ladysmith and Newcastle, in Natal, about fifty miles from Lang's Nek.]
BLOEMFONTEIN, Sept. 28
The Orange Free State Raad has unanimously instructed the Governmen to try and insure peace without violation of the honor arid independence of the Republic, and has promised to faithfully fulfil treaty obligations to the Transvaal.
