Burglary at Waihou.

A SAFE SMASHED AND ROBBED

Hamilton, April 19. A daring burglary was perpetrated at Waihou some time on Saturday night. Mr E. Hemphill, a local store keeper, closed his shop at 9 p.m., and, after depositing his cash in the safe, locked up and left for Te Aroha, en route for the Thames. During the uighfc the store was forcibly entered, the safe removed »uto a paddock three or four hundred yards away, the back knocked out of it with an axe, and the contents, amounting to £28 in notes and silver, extracted. Early on Sunday morning the stable* man of the Waihou Hotel on ?oing to the paddock found a cheque for £6 lying on the ground, and, on further search, discovered the safe buried in a ditch. The police are investigating the matter, but at present there is no clue to the burglar. I
