Fire at the Royal Hotel.

Just as we were going to press the firebells sounded an alarm, a portion of the roof of Humphreys' Eoyal Hotel having ignited owing to the woodwork around the chimney catching fire.

Several willing friends were soon upon the scene, and by the aid of a few buckets of water the fire was speedily extinguished before any damage of consequence had been done.

The members of the Grahamstown branch of the Fire Brigade under Sapt. West and Capt. Williams assembled with considerable alacrity, but fortunately their services were not required.
