The result of oar local election will not have been a great surprise to the Thames people, especially to those who profess to have an insight into election matters. Mr Fraser has every reason to be proud of the result of the contest, as the cumber of votes polled by him was fully equal to the anticipations of his most sanguine friends, and exceeding very greatly those of his opponents. Although we advocated the chances of Mr McGowan as against his, we now cheerfully accept the verdict of the majority of the electors, in favor of Mr Fraser, and so long as he is our member, he will ever find us loyally supporting him in any measures which he may undertake on behalf of and to the advantage of this district and the country at large. Mr Fraser had a great advantage in tho contest owing to the division in the ranks of Wi* opponents, but to bis committee and many friends who worked so assiduously pn his behalf, • Urge amount of credit ii
undoubtedly due for the energetic manner in which they worked on behalFof their candidate, One pleasing feature was the general good feeling displayed by all who took part in the contest; now it ia over, we feel sure that both victors and vanquished will bury any ill feeling that may have been engendered in the heat of election time. _______
