RESULTS OF THE CONTESTS.

THAMES. The result of the polling for the elec tion of a member for the Thames district in the House of Representatives was anxiously awaited last evening by a large crowd of persons, notwithstanding that showers of rain commenced to fall about half-past 7 o'clock. The polling from Tararu was the first to come to haod, and about ten minutes patt 8 the result was announced from the Court-house, while the return from S.t. George's Schoolroom was received some 15 minutes afterwards. The following are the returas from each polling place:— TABABU. " Wm. Fraser 81 Jas. McGowan 19 John Frater ... ... 8 COUBT HOUSE. W. Fraser 431 J. McGowan 327 J. Frater ... f.. ... 141 ST. GEOBGE's SCHOOLROOM. W. Fraser 147 J. McGowan ... ... 135 J Frater 58 The total number of votes thus polled was 1347, those received by each candidate, being - Fraser, 659; McGowan, 481; and Frater, 207; majority for Fraser, 178. The result was received with cheers, and Mr Fraser was seized by several of bis moreenthusiasticsupporters, and carried - through Queen and Albert streets shoulder high, followed by an immense crowd of ejectors. The utmost good feeling prevailed throughout the contest, and after the result was made known, the crowd gradually dispersed. ■
