Dr Bennett, of Sydney, the eminent naturalist, writes to his son in this city; —" Mr Caldwell's discovery is a very interesting one, and I shall look with interest for particulars of facts on which he bases the announcement that the monotremata are oviparous. I had a telegram from him announcing his discovery. I know him well, and as he is an excellent embryologist, he is not likely to commit an error like an amateur naturalist." Suicide at Onehunga. J. Howe Bousefield, a remittance man, who had been drinking heavily, jumped from the top storey window of the Manukau Hotel, Onehunga, yesterday afternoon. He sustained fatal injuries, I and died four hours later.
