BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL

Annual Steeplechase A. Donaldson won the Matata Cup for the first man home in the senior handicap at the annual steeplechase of the Timaru Boys’ High School yesterday. The William Scott Memorial Cup, awarded to the first man home in the junior handicap, was won by R. Taylor. Owing to the wet state of the ground, the course, three and a-half miles, was confined to the roadway and drier areas, beginning at School Park and continuing through Centennial Park. There was a large number of entries and the races were keenly contested. The results were as follows: Senior championship: M. Darling 1, F. Black 2, J. Tait 3. Senior handicap: A. Donaldson (40sec) 1, D. Angus (30sec) 2, G. Guthrie (70sec) 3. Junior championship: A. J. Taylor 1, D. L Linton 2. Junior handicap: R Taylor (70sec) 1, C. H. Morris (80sec) 2, J. Mclntyre (30sec) 3.
