LIFTMEN STRIKE

Workers Climb Stairs Of Skyscrapers NEW YORK, Sept. 24 Eleven thousand liftmen and other maintenance workers in 975 Manhattan office buildings struck at the morning rush hour to-day. Thousands of office workers laboriously climbed up stairways, including those of the 102-storeyed Empire State Building, in which 72 lifts are normally busy. The spreading of the strike crippled business activities in at least 1575 office buildings.
