BRITISH TROOPS IN EGYPT

Call For Evacuation CAIRO, September 23. Tltc Prime Minister, Nokrashy Pasha, in an official statement after a meeting of Egypt's elder statesmen, called for the evacuation of Egypt by British troops, and for political unity between Egypt and Sudan. The statement added that the statesmen considered the moment propitious to begin negotiations for the achievement of the country’s national aims. London newspapers give considerable prominence to the Cabinet’s communique calling for a British withdrawal from Egypt, which the Prime Minister 'Nokrashi Pasha) issued to correspondents, says Reuter’s Cairo correspondent. Egypt contends that war proved that material guarantees for the defence of the Suez Canal were unnecessary, and that Egypt’s friendship is sufficient. Reuter’s correspondent points out that the British and Egyptian treaty is not due for revision until 1946 and may last a further 10 years.
