FEW LAMBS LOST
Effect Of Yesterday’s Weather Inquiries embracing a wide sweep of South Canterbury revealed that yesterday's cold weather and rain caused only a few’ deaths among lambs. Until yesterday afternoon about 11 inches of rain had fallen in most districts. The cold change yesterday mornn. accounted fcr a few of his lambs, sail Mr J. Dempsey, of Waimate. Paddocks were muddy and water in hollow had drowned tne or two newly-bori lambs. If the weather cleared n< great losses would be suffered. As far as he knew, the lambs wen standing up well to the wet condition: in the Temuka district, said Mr J Macaulay. Luckily the temperature had not dropped sufficiently low tc cause heavy losses. The creeks were high and the paddocks very wet in the Cave distr.ct reported Mr G. B. Baker. There Lad been a few losses, but they were not serious. Conditions had improved slightly in the afternoon If the rain became intermittent and no cold snap was experienced, there would not be anv marked losses. A few of the creeks were in flood but were fluctuating according to the rain, said Mr P. R Talbot, of Claremont. A few lambs had perished, bm no serious losses had been reported Until 9 a.m. yesterday his rain gauge had recorded 11 inches.
