DEFECTS ALLEGED
Electrical Materials On Sale (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 24. After carefully inspecting samples of electrical materials purchased in New Zealand, a sub-committee of engineers of the executive of the Electrical Supply Authorities Engineers’ Association reported that some samples disclosed faulty design, faulty workmanship and faulty or unsuitable materials single or in combination. Disclosing the tendency on the par’ of some manufacturers and in less common instances some overseas manufacturers, to depart from the standard which was in the best interests of the country and the electrical industry, the sub-committee recommended the association executive to convey its findings to the chief electrical engineer. Works Department with a request that the matter should receive the special attention ot the advisory committee on electrical regulations with a view to the relaxation of the restrictions on the importation of approved electrical appliances and fittings from overseas. A hope was expressed that legislation ivould be enacted to prevent shoddy and dangerf-iis electrical goods from reaching themarket.
