U.S. Submarines’ Successes The United States Navy has announced that American submarines, in daring forays in the Sea of Japan, sank more than 50 ships, totalling approximately 100,000 tons. The submarine commanders reported finding only small ships plying between the ports of Gensan, Fusan, and Seishin, in Korea, and the main Japanese ports in Honshu.
“Queen” Liners in Peace The liners Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth after four more transAtlantic trips are to be “demobbed” and handed back to the Gunard Line for a peacetime job as luxury passenger liners. The Union Jack was lowered and the French Tricolour raised at Wedding Platz hi a ceremonial transfer of the French district of Berlin from the British to the French, says Reuter’s Berlin correspondent. The ceremony was carried out by British and French troops. ______
