WEATHER SOUTH CANTERBURY FORECAST
FAIR The following is the forecast for South Canterbury issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the period ending 5 p.m. to-day:— General Situation A ridge of high pressure covers the Dominion. A trough of low pressure is over the Tasman Sea. Forecast Winds. —Variable winds. Weather.—Fair, apart from some scattered morning fogs; temperatures cold. TIMARU RECORDS Sun rises at Timaru to-day 7.33 a.m.; sets 5.46 p.m. High water at Timaru to-day 7.48 a.m.; 8.9 p.m. PHASES OF THE MOON First Quarter .. Aug. 16 at 12.32 a.m. Full Moon .. .. Aug. 23 at 12.9 p.m Last Quarter .. Aug. 30 at 3.40 p.m. New Moon.. .. Sept. 7at 1.49 a.m. LIGHT RAIN Light rain fell yesterday morning, but the afternoon was fine. Following are the records taken at Timaru Park for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday with the exception of the maximum temperature and sunshine for the day, which were taken at 7 p.m.:— Max. temperature in shade: 47.8. Min. temperature on grass: 38.6. Frost: Nil. Wind: S.W.I. Rainfall: .31 inch. Rainfall to date this year: 24.9in5. I Rainfall to date last year: 17.0m5. Sunshine: 0.6 hour. Sunshine to date this year: 1148.6 hrs Sunshine to date last year: 1056.9 hrs IN OTHER CENTRES Temuka— Yesterday was dull and cold with a south-east wind. The maximum temperature was 57 degrees and the minimum 40. Thirty-five points of rain were recorded. The glass was rising last evening. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday) .—Barometer, 29; thermometer, maximum 43.5, minimum 41.2; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 30. Yesterday was overcast and damp.
