Members of the staff of the Waimate Primary School met at afternoon tea to bid farewell to Mrs M. Ross, whose husband, Gunner Ross, is returning to New Zealand after liberation from a German prisoner-of-war camp. A presentation was made by Miss A. Wellwood on behalf of the teachers. The headmaster (Mr J. M. Wilson) thanked Mrs Ross for her loyal cooperation and especially thanked her for hex- organisation and supervision of the Junior Red Cross. In expressing best wishes for her future, Mr Wilson spoke of Mrs Ross's popularity with both teachers and pupils. Mr G. R. Watters (chairman of the School Committee) expressed the pleasure felt by members at the news that Gunner Ross was safe and would soon return to New Zealand. He paid a tribute to Mrs Ross's valuable work as a member of the staff. Mr A. F. Palmer, Miss M. Hay and Miss Kidd also spoke.
