BOROUGH PIPE-LINE RESTORATION
Satisfactory Progress
“The work on the restoration of the water supply pipe line is proceeding satisfactorily,” states the Borough Engineer (Mr R. J. Comrie) in a report to the Timaru Borough Council “although long delays occur in the acquisition of materials and delivery of same. Tire top crossing in the lower Pareora Gorge is nearly completed More work on the right and left barks still has to be done, but the main river section has been finished. “A commencement has been made in clearing the debris, etc., from the lower crossing in the lower Pareora Gorge,” Mr Comrie continues. “At the Holme Station crossing a start has been made with river protection work; and the necessary gear etc. for pile driving is now being assembled on the site.
“At the moment the pumps are working satisfactorily; but a recent blow-out at a joint on the pipe line in Beaconsfield Road caused considerable inconvenience and loss of storage. At the present time the reservoirs are full The approximate cost of pumping is 6d per 1000 gallons, and the daily consumption is still in the neighbourhood of 1.000,000 gallons a day. While appreciating the efforts of the residents to conserve water, they should still be asked to save whatever water they can as now that the reservoirs are full, the less consumed, the less pumping will be required."
