SUDDEN DEATH

Rev. Father D. Halvey (N.Z.P.A.) ASHBURTON. Sept. 7. The Rev. Father Denis Halvey collapsed this morning while being taken into Methven by Mr John Stack, a teamster, of Highbank, who picked him up after a motor tyre punctured on the way to Rakaia, where the priest offered Mass every Thursday.

Father Halvey came to New Zealand from Ireland just after the last war. and since them was stationed in various parts of the Christchurch diocese, including Rangiora and Hawarden, from which latter place he went to Methyen about nine j'ears ago. He celebrated his silver jubilee as a priest last year.
