NO RATIONING OF FLOUR
Prevalent Rumour Refuted “Has Never Been Discussed or Mooted” Because of a rumour in Timaru that flour is in short supply and will soon be rationed, grocers, merchants and millers have expressed concern at the increased demand for supplies. "There is no truth in the rumour, " Mr E. A. Scott (branch manager of the Flour Section of the Wheat Committee) said yesterday after he had spoken by telephone with the Wheat Controller (Mr R. McPherson). “He said that the question of rationing flour had never been discussed or mooted,” continued Mr Scott. “There are greater supplies of flour in New Zealand to-day than there was at this time last year and some 500,009 bushels of wheat are at present being held in New Zealand in excess of the quantity in stock at the same period in 1942,” Mr Scott explained. He added that the purchase of flour not required for immediate use was not wise, because there was a deterioration in the quality of flour kept in households for a long period.
