An Unbeaten Record New Zealand Team In Middle East N.Z.EJF. Official News Service CAIRO, August 24. The representative New Zealand water polo team maintains its unbeaten record in the Cairo League competition, which is contested by first-class teams representing the Forces and Services in the area. A high standard of water nolo is maintained in Egypt in normal times, the national team being in world class. Competition in the area reaches a class higher than inter-provincial play in New' Zealand. The Kiw’is are coached by Basc’a. an international champion since 1935 and a member of the Czech Olympic side. Regular players are K. Drummond, R. M. Rattray, P. H. McGrath, G. Low. M. Clay, JRawston and Barry, and periodical players are P. R Malthus, S. M. McKinley, K. Welch and Mitchell. To enable the selectors to choose a team to play the Royal Navy at Alexandria this week, the North Island played the South and won on the first innings by four wickets. Without four of Its leading players. South Island batted and made only 60 runs, Pinney (11), Riley (13), and Rayner (10) reaching double figures. Tire bowling of Carson 3 for 13, McKay 3 for 17 and Hatch 2 for 7 was not above the average and the batting was disappointingly poor. Tire North Island batted slowly but surely, Burnette being not out with 47. Scott contributed 24. Besides making 19 as opening batsman, the wicketkeeper. Blandford, stumped two men and caught four others in the South innings. In the second innings South made 72 for 6. How’den who captained the side, carrying his bat for 18 and and Pinney knocking up 16. Carson captained North, which was without Donnelly and Kenny. The New Zealand team to play the Navy is as follows: M. P. Donnelly. J. Scott, N. Begg. W. N. Carson J. D. Lrwis, J. A. R. Blandford, H. A. Purbell. M. G. Browne. N. S. F. Burnette, T. J. McKay' and H. Robinson. Reserves: A. T. Burgess and H. B. Massey.
