BURNSIDE SALE
CATTLE IN SHORT SUPPLY DUNEDIN, August 25. There were small yardings in all sections at the weekly sale at Burnside. Fat cattle were in short supply and values increased from 20/- to 30/- a head. Prime steers made £22/12 6 to £3l/12/3. medium £l9/7/6 to £2l/2/6, and light from £l3/2/6. Prime heifers £l3/17/6 to £l9/17/6. medium £lO 17'6 to £l3/2/6, and light from £9/7/6. Prime cows made £ll/17/6 to £l9/12/6, medium £9/12/6 to £lO/17/6, and light from £7/12/6. c c There was a small yarding oi fat sheep, the largest proportion of which were wethers, a big percentage of these being of choice quality. Best wethers could be quoted as firm, while lighter sorts were about 1/- easier. Ewes, on an average, appreciated in value to the extent of 1/- a head. Prime wethers made 36/6 to 47/9, medium 32/- to 35/6. and light from 25/-. Prime ewes made 28/- to 36/3, medium 15/6 to 27/- and light from 18/-. Best hoggets realised up to 43/3. There was a small yarding of store cattle. There were only two pens of two-year-old steers, the remainder being 18-month steers and the usual assortment of cows. Two-year-old steers brought £7/12/- to £8 9/-, 18-month steers to £6/9/-, and grazier cows up to £B/5/-. There was a small offering of vealers and prices were up about £1 on last week’s rates. Best runners made to £l2, best vealers £B/2/-, and average sorts £5 to £6/10/-. Fat pigs numbered 115, and prices were down to the extent of £1 a head. Best baconers made from £6/5/- so £7/6/-, prime £4/15/- to £5/10/-, and medium £4/2/- to £4/12/-. Store pigs were in short supply, the best of which made from 24/- to 26'-. Small suckers made from 8/- to 10/-.
