WOMEN’S NOTES
At the recen Christchurch competitions pupils of Mrs D. Lyne were successful in the elocutionary sections, Betty Marshall winning the scholarship for girls under 16, and her sister, Laura Marshall, gained one first and two seconds in girls in the under 12 section. Miss Marion Ross, of the W.W.S.A. Overseas Hospital Unit, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs W. I. Ross, Raymond Street. Miss Ross received her V.A. training from St. John’s Ambulance in Wellington and left New ZeaInad six months ago. During the whole of that time she had been on a hospital ship and when she was entertained by the Timaru W.W.S.A. committee at the home of Mrs E. G. Kerr she had a most interesting story to tell not only about her work but also about the sights she had seen and the hospitality received everywhere. Duty on a hospital ship was strenuous but interesting and the return voyages afforded so much time for lectures and study that most of the V.A.s would probably adopt nursing as a profession when they were released from war duty.
