POWER BOARD

Monthly Meeting

General Business The monthly meeting of the South Canterbury Power Board was held yesterday. Present—Messrs G. Dash (chairman), C. E. Kerr, K. Macdonald, W. Scott, J. R. Hart, M. H. Richards, H. G. Mathers and C. C. Knight. Development Loan A resolution passed on August 12 making a special order for the raising of the Electricity Development Loan of £lB,OOO was confirmed. The loan is for the erection of an 11 k.v. line from Studholme to Waimate and for the carrying out of the normal development of the Board’s district. Fife Protection A report dealing with appliances required for fire emergency protection of the Board’s property was submitted by Mr Knight. The report recommended the provision of sand dumps and stirrup pumps, and the training of the staff in the use of all the fire fighting appliances. A comprehensive report on the methods to be adopted In the handling of Incendiary bombs was also presented by Mr Knight, who was thanked for both reports. Finance Committee The Finance Committee reported as follows: Temuka Borough Council: Charges for street lighting • —The ' Committee recommended that the Temuka Borough Council be advised that the Board regretted that it could not offer any reduction in its standard street lighting charges for intermittent extinguishing of the street lights in Temuka Borough. Radio broadcasting and, power conservation:—The committee reported that, correspondence from the Electric Power "oard’s Association had been received advising that the Electricity Controller did not consider it advisable to make any change at present in the hoqrs of radio broadcasting as had been .uggested by the' Association as a means of relieving the power shortage in. the North Island. Supply to Tiniaru Borough Council: —The Committee recommended that the Timaru Borough Council- be advised ; .iat in rega- 1 to the parallel running Of ,'ie existing lines between Grant’s Hill and Grasmere Street, any necessary work at Grant’s Hill substation should be done by the Council itself, but before work commenced, plans of he proposed wort- be submitted -by the Council to the Board for approval by the Board and by the Public Wqrks Eepartment. The report w adopted.
