Millions For Defence (9.50 pan.) WASHINGTON, Sept. 8. (9.50 pan.) NEW YORK, Sept. 8. The Washington correspondent of of the “New York Times” says the United States defence expenditure reached 1,172,000,000 dollars in August, nearly 10 per cent ahead of that in July. At the end of August the entire programme amounted to 56,357,000,000 dollars, with British orders making the total 60,016,000,000 dollars. Exports of war materials in July were 69,000,000 dollars compared with 48,000,000 dollars in June. Eleven and a half millions of the gain represented fighters and bombers.
