KILLED BY ENEMY ACTION

Commander Addis, R.N. (P.A.) AUCKLAND, September 8. Advice that her husband, Commander E. E. Addis. R.N., has been killed by enemy action has been received from the Admiralty by Mrs Addis, of Milford. Commander Addis served in the last war. He came to the Philomel as training officer and first lieutenant in 1926, and remained until 1928. He retired from the Navy shortly after returning to England and studied law, becoming a barrister at the Admiralty Bar. He rejoined the Navy before the outbreak of war. He served in the Mediterranean and the North Sea and was at Narvik in the Warspite, being mentioned in dispatches. Many New Zealand ratings now serving passed through his hands as training officer. As a hobby he wrote “thrillers” under the pen name of Peter Drax. He was also interested in amateur theatricals and took part in several productions.
